Hi Everyone, This is the final week of Home Learning so this will be my final weekly blog post. I hope, as you enjoy the summer, you will continue to include music in your lives some way. This summer will be different, but I am hoping to find ways to support local musicians in some way. Mrs. Waite posted a great video on her page. Check out the song "Try Everything" and join in dancing with one of our music teacher friends. I am looking forward to seeing many of you next week during the school closing drive through. I can't wait till we are all back together again at school. All the best to our grade 6 students as you move on to Intermediate school. Have a wonderful summer!

Hi Everyone! This week, I thought I would share a couple of versions of Peter and the Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev. This composition was written in 1936 as a way to introduce children to the instruments of the orchestra. Each character in the story is represented by a different instrument or group of instruments. Enjoy! June 1, 2020 Welcome to June! I hope you had a good week. Mrs. Waite and I had so much fun in the school parade on Thursday. It was so nice to see many of you waving, holding signs and decorations. We miss you all! This week I have a fun percussion playalong activity to try. You may not have instruments at home like we have in the music room, but you can use some "found instruments" for this activity. Anything that makes a noise will work. (Maybe you have some homemade instruments that you can use) Have a look at the video below. You will see there are 5 different symbols. Each symbol represents a different instrument. This is what I use in the music room: + = Sticks | = Woodblocks ⬜ = Tambourine O = Drum Δ =Triangle A few tips:
There are many more similar videos on YouTube. Search "percussion playalong". Extension for older students: Can you make your own percussion playalong with a favorite song? Have fun! May 25, 2020 Happy Monday Everyone! What a beautiful day! I hope you all have a chance to get outside and enjoy this nice weather. This week, I challenge you to create a piece of art inspired by music. I have included a few musical suggestions below but any favorite music will work.
Have fun! May 19, 2020
Hi Everyone I hope you had a great long weekend. The weather was lovely and I enjoyed lots of time outside doing some gardening and enjoying the sun. This week I want to share the Classics for Kids website. It contains lots of great information and activities. Each week, they post new information about a piece of music. The site also has lots of games and activities for kids to try at home. Have a great week! May 11, 2020 Hi Everyone I hope you had a good week and had fun celebrating Mother's Day. It was such a treat to have restrictions eased slightly. I was able to make dinner for my mother and hug my niece and nephew for the first time in 2 months! I am posting a Raffi playlist for you to enjoy at home. Raffi is a Canadian singer-songwriter who has been entertaining children for decades. We were learning these song in our kindergarten classes this year and were planning on including them in the spring concert. I hope you can have some fun singing along. I bet some of you can teach your families the actions! Home Learning on TV!Eastlink TV is broadcasting programming to support home learning. This includes contributions from Music, Phys. Hi Everyone I hope you are all doing well and finding some interesting activities to fill your days. I have been trying to get some exercise and spend time outside every day. Each week, I would like to post an activity for you to try at home that will help you to continue to make music. (Please note: these activities are meant for fun and are completely optional) Here is a music activity you can try this week! Activity: My Playlist Materials: Paper, pencil, access to music (Youtube, Spotify, CDs, vinyl) 1. List 10 songs (song name and artist name) that you would put on a playlist for yourself. 2. Ask each family member (brother, sister, parent, etc) to list 10 songs they would like to put on their playlist. 3. Call or message a friend and have them list 10 songs for their playlist. 4. Choose 1 song each day to listen to and sing along with/learn the lyrics. If you would like, you can email your playlist. I would love to see what you are listening to!
