Hi everyone, A friend of mine who teaches music at Glen Steward Primary shared a great dance video recently. Their choir was also learning 'Try Everything!", which our grade 3 choir was learning! I thought you might enjoy moving to this song on a cloudy Monday. Miss you. Mrs. W

Hello everyone,
Here is a suggested way to create music at home using your computer! These 2 websites are recommended for grades 4-6. 'Soundtrap' and 'Bandlab' are both free online DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations). A DAW allows you to create songs by multi-tracking. Multi-tracking means you might record one thing (a drum), and then add a second or third thing (notes or lyrics) on top. The DAW will put them all together, allowing you to mix and edit each part separately! You don't have to be an expert to make great sounding music using technology! You also don't need any physical instruments as many of these DAWs have digital instruments you can use (but try recording your own voice through the computer's microphone for fun!). Hello Sherwood friends, I hope everyone enjoyed the outdoors yesterday and maybe even had a visit with some family or friends on a deck/yard. I was very happy to be able to visit my parents in their yard yesterday, to sit and have a nice long conversation. I have been learning to use an app called "Acapella Maker". It is fairly easy and allows you to record yourself playing 2, 3, 4 or even 5 parts together. You can try it too! Here is what I created. You can find the app on the app store or play store for a phone/tablet. It is free and you can create videos up to 1 minute long. I recommend using headphones. You can even use homemade or found instruments from your house to create a rhythm pattern! I used my ukulele to play the chords: C, G, Am and F. Then I used the C pentatonic scale (with an added B) to make up a little solo. Here is a video of the scale I used: I can't wait until we are back together making music! Hi everyone, I hope you had fun checking out some ways to make homemade instruments from Ms. White this week! If you haven't checked out her post, head over and take a look! I've got something in the works to share next week with a way you can use those instruments! Since today is Friday, I thought I would share something you can get up and dance to! This video, by PEI's band "The East Pointers" was released this week. A catchy song with some feel-good dancing. It is off their recent album Yours to Break, which is full of great songs to move to! Turn it up, make some space and have fun! You can also find their full album on their Youtube page below! (I think Country Cable might be my favourite track!)

Hi everyone, I hope you are settling into a Monday routine. Today is warm outside even though there is some wind. I was just outside with my dog Molly and it is a great day for a walk. Here is a music activity you can try this week! Activity: My Playlist Materials: Paper, pencil, access to music (Youtube, Spotify, CDs, vinyl) 1. List 10 songs (song name and artist name) that you would put on a playlist for yourself. 2. Ask each family member (brother, sister, parent, etc) to list 10 songs they would like to put on their playlist. 3. Call or message a friend and have them list 10 songs for their playlist. 4. Choose 1 song each day to listen to and sing along with/learn the lyrics. Here is my playlist! Mrs. Waite's Monday Playlist 1. Dance Monkey - Tones and I 2. Riptide - Vance Joy 3. Blinding Lights - The Weeknd 4. Faith - Andrew Waite 5. when the party's over - Billie Eilish 6. Drive All Night - Bruce Springsteen 7. Beat It - Michael Jackson 8. Bobcaygeon - The Tragically Hip 9. What I Wouldn't Do - Serena Ryder 10. Zombie - The Cranberries April 17th, 2020
Hello Sherwood friends, I am missing you all very much and look forward to when we are together again...creating music, playing instruments, dancing, singing and most of all, making noise! Ms. White and I have started this blog page so that we can stay in touch. We hope to share some things that might interest you. Keep in mind that all of the things we post and share are optional ideas for bringing some music into your home. We will continue using this blog, once we are all together again, to update on school music events, concerts, etc. I hope to have my first 'home music' activity for you on Monday! Mrs. Waite |
